AUSTIN – Springnet — Demonstrators in Austin, Texas showed their support for the protests in Wisconsin by holding an energetic rally at the state Capitol. Several hundred protesters attended the event in Austin Saturday, Feb 26, 2011.

The pro-union crowd sang folk songs and carried placards criticizing budget cuts in Texas and blasting Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker’s proposal to eliminate collective bargaining rights for state employees.

Liberal commentator and onetime Texas Agriculture Commissioner Jim Hightower, wearing a trademark white cowboy hat, said he was happier than “a flea at a dog show” after seeing the hundreds gathered outside the Capitol. He said progressive voters had become too complacent.
